Greetings everybody! This second blog will be about the workshop we attended at the Curacao chamber of commerce regarding export to the United States. Stay tuned because this information might be very useful to you!
Small businesses with alot of potential
There are a lot of small businesses within Curacao that offer good quality products but are not well known by the tourists nor the locals. Our job here at I am made in Curacao is to promote these local businesses so that they gain more popularity and thrive.
Workshops
A fundamental key for these local businesses to grow quickly is that they have to make their products available for the international market. As you already may know, bigger markets lead to bigger business opportunities. An important step for these local businesses to achieve success is by expanding their market to the United States.
They’re some local business with a lot of potential but not all are aware of the rules and regulations regarding the export to the United States, luckily these businesses can participate in workshops offered at the Curacao chamber of commerce and industry at Willemstad.
CBERA and CBPTA
My internship supervisor and I attended one of these workshops, I’ve learned a lot about the so called CBI. The CBI is a trade program created to facilitate the economic development and export diversification of some Caribbean countries including Curacao by offering them certain benefits. The CBI consists of two important components: CBERA and CBPTA.
So basically what I learned at the workshop is that if you as a company are aware of the rules and regulations when exporting to the United States it can bring your company some benefits and advantages regarding Taxes. Especially for small businesses it’s crucial to gain the competitive edge and when you miss out on these advantages, you miss out on cost reduction and lower prices thus less profit. I recommend all of you who have a business or are planning to start a business to please have an eye out for these workshops!
